Today’s the big day, the Pennsylvania election! Who knows if this will settle the score. So much talk about the importance of the super delegates is really depressing to me as an American. It seems like after such a hard fought battle amongst the people, the contest should be over, not left to the big wigs.
Since March 2007, my 23 year old sister and I have been volunteering around South Texas for the Obama campaign. Before I came to Europe in early March of this year, the two of us would nearly always watch his speeches together and even go to Obama grassroots events in Austin when we had the time. The people that come together around him are action oriented and hopeful in improving our nation. We share in a common desire for his inspiration, direction, and leadership.
I was already in Europe when he gave this speech in Philadelphia and my sister e-mailed saying I had to find time to see it.
I first watched the whole thing in an internet cafe in Budapest, and it still resonates as his best speech yet.
The day I left Texas was the day after the election there. The last thing my mom and I did together before I left for this semester was vote in our Texas Caucus and then speed downtown to his rally in San Antonio where we got to see him speak in person. Everyone was so amazed that Texas mattered for once in the election of the Democratic national candidate. But now it’s up to Pennsylvania, and I really hope that this is where the race comes to an end.
Cross your fingers for good luck, we need this man in the White House.
