Living-Operating-Systems

no “user” (i.e. any-non-geek) switches operating system for the “right” reasons (security, stability, etc.), but because of little things that make difference (and then the cool stuff). So after a month on ubuntu 8.04, let me talk about those:

– Dragging windows around the desktop is as exhilarating as flying a kite on the beach in Santa Cruz. If you have not turned on the “special” effects in compiz do so! Life will never be the same.
– The weather and localization features of the desktop clock are incredible. They put you in your place (on this planet).
– if you mouse-over any mp3-file, the song starts playing like magic (it stops when you move on).
– Ipod integration finally works. And after 6 months of listening to the same songs on the mexipod (under 7.10), I appreciate that.
– In open office 2.4, there is a shortcut to paste-special!

Try it, it will grow on you…
